Perhaps you’ve seen the news this last week or so. Perhaps you haven’t. Well, if you haven’t you have missed the headline that the media covered kind of with a big deal. The media came out and touted the fact that people who identify themselves as white are now headed for minority status. This coincided with the census bureau releasing a bit of information that said, most children younger than age 1 are minorities.
Well, I suppose that is pretty important information. We should all be so interested in such developments. But yet, they would have to be true in order to have any validity and they aren’t true. Isn’t that sad. Another non-news news story. The media has been recycling this story for at least the last year, saying minorities will be a majority of the country by 2050. Well, I would like to ask the question. If minorities become the majority, don’t they cease to be the minority? Wouldn’t white people then be the minority in this equation? Or are you speaking about all minorities? Surely, white males make up less than half the country now, you could twist any demographic to prove something you needed to prove if you ask the right questions. Which then becomes which questions are you asking.
Turns out the Census Bureau is taking anyone that defines themselves as having a hispanic background, whether they are latino in ethnicity or not, and classifying them as a minority, which shifts the balance or babies to minority dominated. Well, yes if I took any one who identified themselves with a heritage, regardless of color, I could make the white race all but disappear. We then would be a nation ruled by minorities. Wouldn’t that be sweet? Wait, what’s wrong with all of this. Isn’t America supposed to be about getting along and being the great melting pot? I thought the dream was that all could get along regardless of sex, color, religion, etc.
So why is the media making a big deal about it? What does the end of white America or any color of America have to do with the harmony of the country? I don’t get how this could be anything but divisive. Do you? I for one, don’t look at my children and say, there go the whitest kids, they’ll rule America one day with their whiteness that makes them better than others. Neither do I say, there go my Italian heritaged kids who will one day rule America with the rest of the non-whites when they overthrow the man. I really don’t give a crap what my kids rule, or how they are seen by society. My kids will do a good job and live right, attain high goals and be successful because I taught them important things in life, not because they are better or worse than anyone based on color. I don’t think that has worked out for people who have tried it.
