Do you remember just recently the case of Greta Hawkins the elementary school principal out at PS90 on Coney Island in New York? No you say? Well, she is the principal that banned Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” for the kids to sing as it was far too adult in lyrics for the students to understand, she also said that the song had to be dropped from the program so as to not offend those of other cultures. I’m sorry, is this not America, are not the people living in it Americans? I mean if you want to pledge your undying allegiance to, oh say Belgium, shouldn’t you go be a Belgian patriot living in Belgium, yay waffles and all that doodadery? I know that I am a patriot of the United States, I may not agree with everything my country does or every move my government makes but that does not make me love my country any less or what it has stood for these last 230 odd years.
Now I don’t know about you, but I have never found the lyrics in that song to be anything but patriotic in nature, why would a patriotic song that speaks of the greatness of our country either naturally born into or adopted be offensive to anyone? How can the lyrics be considered too adult or mature for a bunch of six-year-old children when the lyrics to Beiber’s craptacular “Baby” with its romantic overtones and insinuations be perfectly fine for the children to sing at their commencement. Why is it there seems to be a liberal double standard when it comes to protecting the rights of some but not the rights of others. No one in this country should be silenced for being a patriot or wanting to show off some of their patriotic spirit.
Well, some of the parents thought that way too, so they arranged a sing-a-long and invited their Representative Bob Turner (R) to attend and he showed up to sing with the kids. I mean hey, it is an election year and that makes for good press, it has patriotism, children, and Lee Greenwood, certainly a showing would bolster those poll numbers. I’m not going to fault him if that was indeed his rational, because they pretty much all do it. Anyway, so the Rep. shows up, and guess what, so do a bunch of hecklers. They don’t show up to protest against Bob Turner, no they show up to shout down a bunch of six year olds. Are you freaking kidding me. You can watch it in the video below. And while part of me agrees with the woman at the end complaining they shouldn’t have sung Greenwood or Beiber and that they grow up too fast, listening to a bunch of kids trying to yell over adults who are yelling shame, what does it mean, how do you know, and the whatnot is just sad, sad, sad. C’mon, how harmful is patriotism? It won’t put you on welfare, food stamps, won’t make you start drugs or drink. So what is it these people hate about patriotism. Could it be that in its own way patriotism instills a base set of self-reliance in children and pride in who they are? I think it does. I think it helps promote exceptionalism and that too is something Libtards want killed.
