I’ve listened to a bunch of whiny, entitled twenty somethings bitch and moan about how they are the 99% and the 1% are taking all their money, and their future, and their healthcare, and etc. But just who is this amorphous blob that is the 1%? Who defines it?
Well, let me tell you this. The 1% you are worried about isn’t the well to do or rich. If you define the 1% by who is actually stealing your future you only need to look to mom and dad, or back to the generation of the sixties, roughly 45 years or so ago. They are more like the 25%. Yeah, holy crap is right when you think about the fact they make up almost a quarter of the population. It is funny because these are the same people who were complaining and protesting about how their parents didn’t get it, or understand what was important in life when they were youths.
Yeah, those people who railed against the system and the man are now all grown up and are getting old. And guess what folks, they now want the things they are entitled to. They and their heart disease from too many burgers, fries, and shakes, their diabetes from all that soda, and their myriad of other health matters is piling up. Add this to the fact that modern medicine is going to conceivably keep them alive into their eighties and beyond and you have a problem. They are sucking up all that cash in the social security system and Medicaid, Medicare, and just about every other governmental handout system that is funded by your tax dollars and the IOUs the government writes on your behalf. Someday there won’t be anything left. And if that weren’t enough they now want you to do the things they were unwilling to do back in the day.
They also seem to want you to engage in mandatory service in the armed forces if you read what many a popular journalist has put out or the cast of Bill Mahr’s vomitingly stupid show, Real time with this a$$hole, I mean Bill Mahrtyr. I guess the same people who cried out and went on violent rampages against the draft, rioting and burning cards are now seeing the error of their ways. Guess what? they want you to pay for that now and do the right thing. I understand that the generation of our parents are starting to enter their later and twilight years and I don’t begrudge them the creature comforts that usually come with a life time of working and raising their offspring. I just wish they wouldn’t foist all the problems they are going to create through their sapping of the federal system onto us. I also wish they wouldn’t redefine right and wrong and now tell us how we should live our lives. They certainly got to live theirs unimpeded by the previous generation. Hell, every generation a great mass of young men, and now women, go die to protect that way of life.
When you get to the point where mom and pop are there isn’t going to be much left for you except for maybe the bill. You’ll never retire, you and your children, and grandchildren will work until you die unless you are exceptionally lucky or manage to hit the lottery. Because, lets face it, going after the perceived 1%, you know the rich, is going to be the ultimate disincentive for you to work to create lasting wealth. How can you create that wealth when the government is only going to take it away from you anyway to pay the bills. Tax the rich eventually turns into tax the next richest and then the next and so on and so forth until there is no one left to tax. Oh, you think, there will always be someone earning more than me. but if the government taxes them into oblivion to pay for mom and dad’s retirement, who is next on that list of people to tax.
You see federal entitlement systems, or handouts are forcing money out of the hands of people who work through taxation or forcible charity as I am sure someone is calling it these days. This forcible charity is eventually going to bankrupt the system, which means nothing for you…and you have mom and dad to thank for it.
