It comes as no surprise that once something is in the news it becomes a hot button item around the water cooler. But, did you know that once an item is some topic of discussion then people apparently can’t stop thinking about it, ever.
Such is the case with the Chick-fil-A restaurant chain. Roughly three months ago their President Dan Cathy made some remarks and voiced some support for his definition of a family, using his Biblical principles to shape that definition. That statement sparked a firestorm of debate, some protesting, rude comments, homoerotic displays of affection outside the doors and a resurgence of the transvestite Wilson Phillips tribute video singing “Chow Down at Chick Fil A”
People said some really nasty nasty things, local city and state governments threatened to keep the chain out of their cities because their values didn’t match. There was a concerted effort to quash their free speech under miles and miles of hate speech, which is also free. But guess what? None of it matters and Chick-Fil-A is doing just fine.
Research shows that customer attendance is up, sales are up, brand recognition is at an all time high and Chick-Fil-A, a restaurant that is open only six days a week is laughing all the way to the bank as people refuse to stop eating the wonderful chicken sandwiches they make. I know that I certainly can’t. I mean, their chicken is so good they could be using their profits to fund terror and half of America would still eat there. They don’t care whom Chick-fil-A supports with their profits so long as they keep pumping out that chicken.
However, After more protests and heated debate, Chick-fil-A agreed to stop funding groups with anti-same-sex marriage stances. The restaurant chain also circulated an internal document that reassured staff that the company intended to treat every person equally, regardless of sexual orientation, which is good for employee morale of course. But the chicken must flow, and flow it does, regardless of the press good or bad.
