For those of you who aren’t in the know it has come out in a series of emails and through Chris Christie’s Governor’s office that top aides in his administration used and abused their power in the administration to block traffic lanes. Apparently these staffers thought they could shut down three lanes of traffic on the George Washington Bridge in New Jersey to punish a Democratic mayor for his apparent transgressions. In other words it was a reprisal against this person for no other purpose than to make his life difficult. So far Christie has handled it like a champ. He came out and gave a 107 minute conference wherein he answered questions within his know. He investigated the matter, held individuals in his administration accountable, fired the responsible parties, and then refused to lay off blame on anyone else like media witch hunts or the democrats. Watching the reaction of those in positions of power and the reaction of the main stream media is very interesting.
Did the media treat Christie with deference when he held his press conference or did they ask the hard questions? Did they dig? Yes, yes they did, and rightly so…but why is it that this journalistic integrity to the truth and the whole story only applies to republicans? I mean every time in the last five years there has been a press conference for a possible scandal on the left it has been given the kid glove treatment. Interviews with the president, Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, Eric Holder, and Kathleen Sebelius to name a few have been guarded affairs where softball questions which are often dodged have been lobbed and the interviewees. Sometimes they don’t even allow questions, instead giving a statement and leaving the podium.
Here is the problem, the media employs an innocent until or sometimes even when proven guilty mantra for liberal politicians and scandals. Conservatives are treated like criminals until they are proven innocent and then that information is spun to give the worst possible light to the situation. Just look at this bridge thing. Sure, revenge closing of a bridge to show someone who is boss is a nasty move, but it is gray on the legal front. But in liberal scandals where even when lives have been lost, freedoms infringed upon, funds squandered, and large swaths of the economy appropriated no one does any real journalistic digging, and if they do they are shut down by the big boys (i.e. Sharyl Atkisson of CBS being told to stop reporting on Benghazi and James Rogan being targeted by the government for surveillance).
CNN had an interesting interview on with the Sylvester the Cat of the Democratic Party, DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Shultz the other day. It was hilarious to watch her throw the entire Christie organization under the bus for scandal and say that there was no way he couldn’t have known what his staff was doing and he needs to step up and answer for the scandal and provide answers to the media and people. Then when the anchor asked her if it was possible that Obama did know about Benghazi, the Obamacare website, or keeping your doctor the answer was an exact one-eighty from her stance on Christie. “The difference is the issue that President Obama said he didn’t know about were policy issues, this is a scandal,” she responded.
Um, hello you moron, policy issues that turn out to be legally different that what is sold to the American people IS a scandal…finding out a staffer shut down some traffic lanes to get revenge and then firing them is just a bad day at the office. When will the media pick this up and treat everyone the same. Probably never. I would like to pinpoint the moment in journalism history when we watched real journalism die, the last moment of journalistic integrity by the main stream media, and everything after that turned into jingoistic protection of the liberal elite.
I am just watching the media dig with joy into “bridgegate” as they are calling it. However, if half as much investigation went into fast and furious or Benghazi the people responsible for getting Americans killed would be answering for their crimes right now. If a quarter of the amount of investigation went into the IRS scandal or the Obamacare lies the American people would see people on their way to trial and rewriting of laws to make sense. The president would be questioned on the legality of the decrees he is making under the guise of Executive Orders. Instead the media slips quietly into the back pocket of the Democratic party and continues to eviscerate every Republican they see, guilty or not.
