Remember that Brandon Raub guy I talked about last week, the one whom the police detained and sent off to be evaluated at a mental ward because of his Facebook postings? You don’t? Okay you can review it here: Raub-Last Week
All right then. Well it turns out that Raub has been forcibly transferred to a psychiatric facility over three hours away from his home. In a hearing, government officials said his Facebook posts are the sole reason for his continued incarcerations, ignoring the explanation that they are being read out of context. He has since been sentenced to an additional thirty days confinement in a psychiatric ward, however his legal team is appealing this decision. Here is the scary, frightening thing. This isn’t just happening to Raub.
Jason Egroff, 28, is a web designer and graphics artist. He called a radio program to comment on current events, the Chick fil-A controversy and how Christianity seems to be under attack in the United States. He also went on to announce the launch of his own web show, where he provides his analysis of current events in regard to Christianity. Your either thinking, hey to each his own, or well that is nice, not call the police right?
Well guess who showed up on his door step? “Officer Steve” stopped by on a hot tip and took Mr. Egroff into custody on August 8th. Why? Seems a concerned friend called the cops and turned Jason in, because he sounded crazy I guess, then said he has guns in the house. Well, the police using a little enacted law that allows them to apprehend for psychiatric evaluation did just that. Then delivered him into psychiatric care where he was interviewed for the next eighteen hours.
After the eighteen hours of questioning and probing from two different psychiatric care workers he was finally released. They returned his shoelaces and belt along with a diagnosis of psychosis. (Psychosis is a loss of contact with reality that usually includes: False beliefs about what is taking place or who one is (delusions); Seeing or hearing things that aren’t there (hallucinations)) He was ordered to get rid of any firearms he might have in his home and go to a crisis counseling center, and as a bonus was given a prescription for some antipsychotics. He doesn’t want the drugs and he can’t be compelled to take them. However, he did go to the crisis counselor and turn in the paper work.
They took one look at it and determined that he was there for his religious beliefs alone, which is kind of scary because that seems to be the same M.O. they’ve been using to shut Raub up. But the question is how many people has this happened to? How many times have the police been told to knock on a door and take someone away who is a “threat” because of their beliefs, their outspoken support of guns, first amendment, the Bible, etc. That is not a mental health call, that is a witch hunt and a concerted effort to silence those that a few people have decided should be labelled as politically incorrect, racist, sexist, homophobe, Bible thumping, gun loving heretics.
But the real question is where does it stop? How many people will it take? Why is no one moving to end this craziness?
