It came as no surprise that officer Darren Wilson was not indicted by the grand jury. The sheer fact they decided to wait until 8pm to announce the grand jury’s decision told me all I needed to know about what the grand jury’s decision was. The fact of the matter is that after 110 days, 75 meetings, 60 hours of testimony and evidence, that the grand jury could not find a preponderance of evidence to take the case to trial. Make no mistake, this was an exhaustive process for the grand jury and the fact that they didn’t have one credible eyewitness that didn’t back up the officer’s story, an autopsy that showed he was not surrendering, or any other evidence besides speculation that brown didn’t get shot out of his own stupidity means they made the right decision. A man is dead and that is a shame, but that doesn’t make it murder.
You are free to disagree with them, but you cannot declare that the rule of law and justice were not served. We have a process for a reason. It didn’t give a crap about who was black and who was white, who had the privilege or not. It wanted the cold hard facts about the case, and it took its time making sure it got all of the facts. What about Dillon Taylor one week after the Brown shooting? Oh, there is a body cam of that one and of course Taylor was a white suspect shot by a “non-white” officer while walking backwards from him. That DA chose not to press charges, not even to take the case to a grand jury. His family is still protesting, but I can’t recall if they’ve torched Salt Lake City or not. Guess what, It’s been three years and I still believe that Casey Anthony murdered her own child, Caylee…but a jury found her not guilty. I don’t like it, but that is justice. We don’t know all the facts in every case, and when she got off I didn’t go out and steal from the local liquor mart and set a retail store and police car on fire. These “protestors” didn’t give a crap about Michael Brown, they don’t care about justice or the rule of law. They want free stuff.
They were given the opportunity to react with non-violent protests last night after the decision. Instead they looted, burned, and injured bystanders. Gunfire chased some reporters and others off the streets and people, both men and women, covered their faces so they could engage in crime unchecked by the police. A man in a Guy Fawkes mask isn’t raging against the injustice when he is carting away an armful of booze from the liquor store. This wasn’t part of the “hands up, don’t shoot” peace protest, this was get out of the way we’re stealing all of this and setting stuff on fire because we can get away with it.
To the protestors, you’ve destroyed your neighborhood so now what. You’ve stolen from your neighbors, burnt down their businesses, and set on edge the police who is there to “protect and serve.” What are you going to do now, loot someone else’s neighborhood? Your neighborhood is destroyed, who is going to rebuild it, you? You want to know why you can’t have nice things, look at the news and just see the damage you’ve cause in your quest for justice.
