In case you haven’t seen the breaking news, Kathleen Sebelius the Secretary of Health and Human Services and orchestrater of one of the biggest fiascos in American history has announced her “voluntary resignation” from the HHS today. Why? Or more precisely why now? I mean no one can argue that the role she played was one of the villian for all the interesting ways in which the roll out of the Obamacare law screwed over average American people.
If you like your doctor, policies won’t change, save $2500 per family, etc. They were the president’s words but they were the secretary’s actions and policies. It gave the administration time to say, “hey, we didn’t know that was going to happen. We didn’t know she did X or Y or something else.” They stuck with her through all of that, for five damn years. So why have her “resign” now. We all understand the animal that is politics and clearly, by announcing on a random Friday in April after the madate went into play and most people can no longer purchase policies on the exchanges, Sebelius is being forced out of the position. This all has to do with November. Yes, November when the election cycle hits and the Democrats are going to get raked over the coals for the lot of their Obamacare lies, omissions, SNAFUs, and broken promises. See there is no way that you hold a celebration for seven million “enrollees” and then leave the next week. There is so much more partisan activity that she could be in. But as a corrupt, partisan, politician who flaunted the law, and helped botch then coverup the biggest social program burden on the American people ever, she has become a liability.
Sebelius turned the HHS into the most partisan organization that she could, shilling for Obamacare, enroll America and others. She personally made phone calls to organizations outside her scope and told them to continue funding of enroll America. She was cited for violating the Hatch Act by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, one of the few cabinet secretaries to do so. The administation sees the polling numbers for November and they are not good. Nate Silver, by no means a conservative, considers the Senate lost to the Repbulicans, as well as Larry J Sabato who has it as a toss up with Republicans in the lead.
Democrats have to stop the bleeding and try and change the narrative. The only way to do that is to broom out the big names and faces that are recognized with the programs they used to help wedge the country into the corner it wants out of. By changing the brand recognition to a new spokesperson they want to continue to do what they are doing, but fool the people into believing that they are now going about it in a friendlier way. This may keep people from voting the bums out of office wholesale come the end of the year.
Only time will tell if the American people will see through the smoke and mirrors to recognize that the programs as they are executed come from the top down and not see the replacement of a flim-flam, middle man, as a new way of approaching the problem.
